My focus at Red Kestrel Consulting is providing software development and consultancy services to clients. Some recent projects are listed below: From Nov 2021 till February 2022 I worked 100% remotely providing services to a multinational commodities trading company developing bronze, silver, and gold data pipelines using Microsoft Azure Synapse, PySpark, and pytest. The pipelines handled ingesting, validating, and transforming datasets to provide insight to internal customers.From June till October in 2021, I worked (100% remotely) with a major UK insurance company. I worked on the development of RESTful APIs and was responsible for developing a solution to translate and enrich large datasets created by very large volumes of transactions per day. I worked with XML, JSON, Python, DataIKU, Pandas, and Linux.In 2020, I worked on a commercial security product, CertAlert, written in c# for Red Kestrel. CertAlert is used by large organisations around the world (http://redkestrel.co.uk/products/certalert/)In 2019 I was responsible for creating an ETL data pipeline and data APIs for a UK Government statistical website using Python and Azure serverless functions. The pipeline took in a large XML DataSet, which it parsed, extracted, enriched, transformed and loaded as JSON documents to Microsoft Azure’s No SQL Database. Working with an Open Banking startup client in 2018 I designed and developed a POC authorisation solution in Python and Django using the OAuth 2.0 protocol. I spent 13 months during 2016 and 2017 as the lead architect for a large-scale Entrust PKI deployment for a major Japanese investment bank headquartered in London. In 2014/2015 I worked with a small team responsible for developing various aspects of a standalone Python/Django application for a UK government agency. I was heavily involved in writing Python/Django code and the team had a strong focus on agile, scrum, tests, and code reviews.

I worked with Trustis for 13 years until they were aquired by Entrust in 2018. At Trustis I provided security consultancy, software design and development services, secure application consultancy, federated identity management consultancy, SAML consultancy, and PKI design and implementation.

Worked with Barclays to develop and move forward their PKI strategy. Provided security consultancy to many Barclays internal projects. Developed various security related solutions for use by the security operations team using Perl, Python, C#, and Django. Provided software security consultancy to various Barclays projects teams.

Significant role in the architecture of X.509 related products. Tasks included: developing the high level architecture, providing consultancy on related standards (including PKIX, PKCS, ETSI, CEN/ISSS). Developed the Application Security Initiative which included documentation, guidelines, checklists, presentations and live hands on workshops with exploits and mitigation techniques.

Designed large-scale secure authentication system for global retail organisation based on smart cards, biometrics and NetVista terminals .Designed and implemented fingerprint biometric authentication in a PKCS#11 library using Visual C++ and MFC.

Played a key role in the deployment of a production PKI system based on UniCERT 3.0.5. This comprised CAs, RAs, HSMs, Oracle 7.3.4, Datakey smart cards, LDAP directory, SMTP gateway, S/MIME clients, and browser clients

Progressed from Software Engineer to Technical Architect with Boldon James. Architect for Windows-based secure X.400 electronic mail product, for use by US DoD, using C++, MAPI, MS Exchange. Development of various Unix ICL connectivity products in particular Direct Print. Also, responsible for company network security.

Responsible for build production to run on System X subsystem models.Developed a database, in 'C', to provide build information to engineers.
