I covered markets and investing at Business Insider for three years. There, I wrote one of the most popular financial newsletters in media, published a book, and won multiple overseas fellowships, including a Fulbright. Then in 2024, I quit my job to launch Opening Bell Daily, an independent financial media outlet committed to demystifying Wall Street with original reporting — at no cost to readers. Our reporting is syndicated across Inc. Magazine and Bloomberg Terminals. Around the same time I also founded Journalists Club, a community for members of the media in NYC. I produce in-person events, dinners and workshops for reporters and editors to make friends and get jobs. 250+ journalists have attended an event, and many have secured jobs through this network. You can find my work in Fortune, Morning Brew, BuzzFeed News, Yahoo Finance, and Inc. Magazine, among other outlets, as well as on the Bloomberg Terminal. I've also had my fiction published in various online publications. I regularly speak on panels, podcasts and at universities about media, financial reporting and writing, and I work as a mentor for college students. Some awards I've won: ▪️Fulbright Fellowship, Berlin Capital Program (2024)▪️Austrian American Media Fellowship (2022) ▪️Bryce Nelson Award, Distinguished Journalism (2021)▪️Penny Lernoux Award, International Reporting (2021)▪️USC Annenberg Graduate Fellowship (2020)Separately, I self-published two books by the age of 25. Both became #1 bestsellers on Amazon:📘LIFE BETWEEN MOMENTS: NEW YORK STORIES (2022) earned an Amazon #1 Bestseller ranking on five separate categories and #1 New Release across six. 📔EVERYWHERE BUT HOME: LIFE OVERSEAS AS TOLD BY A TRAVEL BLOGGER (2020) earned a #1 Bestseller ranking in six categories. Between philrosen.blog, Medium.com, and Quora, I've written over 1,400 blog posts on careers, books, personal brand, creativity, and audience growth. I publish a weekly newsletter on these topics via Substack.I earned my Master's of Science from USC Annenberg while on full scholarship as an Annenberg Fellow, and hold an undergraduate degree in kinesiology and philosophy from San Diego State University.I'm a California native based in NYC, though I've spent time living in Hong Kong, Spain, and Germany, and have traveled extensively in Europe and Asia.Reach me at philrosen4355@gmail.com, or @philrosenn on Twitter and Instagram.
