I just try to contribute in ways that hopefully assist, improve and stimulate. Data at scale and Ultra Large Scale Systems (especially sociotechnical and hyper-enterprise systems) are my specialities and as an Executive Technical Leader I'm seen as a go-to guy on both. That often involves leading the delivery of large scale, complex IT systems for top 100 companies as well as advising on IT strategy. I also contribute to thinking and standards relating to important leading edge ideas. For example, I've worked with the W3C and was co-lead on their SWSE working group. I also co-led the IBM Academy of Technology Emerging Technology initiative. This was a global activity set up to advise IBM's leadership on emerging technology trends. For my day job, I work as Chief Technical Officer (Data Ecosystems) in IBM's Data & AI Team, and I'm particularly proud of my reputation as a trusted c-suite advisor to many household name companies and my work advising the UK Government, FCA and the Bank of England on matters like advanced AI. I have twice won the IBM Academy of Technology President's Award and am an IBM Gold Circle winner. I'm currently working on Ecosystems Architecture (now within the OpenGroup - 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄), hybrid cloud patterns and Information Theory. I write every now and then and have published the odd award winning book, so I guess I’m quite a creative thinker. My 4th book, on the history of information, is now finished and going through prep for publication very soon. My last white paper focussed on the emerging field of Quantum Semantics. I also present on all matters "information" and gave the 2017 TED talk on “8 Steps to Understanding Information (and Maybe the Universe)”I hold the world's first PhD in Web Science, am an Adjunct Professor of Web Science at Southampton University and a Visiting Professor of Practice at Newcastle University. I also occasionally advise the amazing team at Bletchley Park Museum. Specialties: First and foremost, exceeding the expectations of my clients and/or audience. Then, explaining complex technical ideas in ways that can (hopefully) be easily understood. After that...understanding information (which is way harder than you might expect!), data strategy, data at scale, Large Scale Complex IT Systems (inc hybrid cloud), Web Science, Open Data, AI, systems integration, project delivery, pre-sales, technical writing and, perhaps, turning over the right stones.If you'd like to know more why not ask Google - the Web tends to be very kind to me.
