Starting as a software engineer and manager at FileMaker Inc., an Apple subsidiary, I quickly realized that my true passion lay at the intersection of technology and education. That insight led me to pursue a PhD in Learning Sciences at UC Berkeley. There, I delved into the intricacies of how people learn, especially when supported by innovative technologies.Post-PhD, I took on leadership roles at SRI Education and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. At these institutions I spearheaded cross-disciplinary teams focused on creating cutting-edge learning and assessment experiences, with an emphasis on equity, designing for all learners, and how to best leverage interactive technologies for learning. Now, as the Founder and President of Applied Learning Insights, LLC, I'm fortunate to draw on decades of experience to help organizations navigate the complexities of educational research, design, and technology integration.Throughout my career, I've honed specialities that I'm particularly proud of: leading large-scale innovation projects, collaborating with a wide variety of stakeholders, designing for a diverse learner population, incorporating AI and simulation-based activities into learning experiences, and conducting both qualitative and quantitative research to measure the real-world impact of educational innovations.I thrive when tackling the challenge of achieving ambitious learning goals, especially when integrating new technologies into educational environments. By leveraging our collective wisdom and knowledge we create effective and engaging educational solutions rooted in learning sciences.Feel free to connect if you're interested in chatting about opportunities to enhance educational experiences, both in and out of the classroom.Specialties: leading large-scale innovation and research projects, designing solutions for a diverse learner population (with an emphasis on multilingual learners), integrating simulation-based activities into learning environments, designing and validating the use of Machine Learning models, incorporating AI into educational activities, and leading qualitative and quantitative (gold standard) studies that define and measure the impact of innovative educational environments.
