I started FalTech GPS in 2012, around the same time as OFCOM (the UK telecommunications regulator) introduced a licensing regime for indoor GPS repeater systems.There had been a need for such technology for some time, but the market for GPS repeater technology was effectively unregulated until then. After some tireless work by Roger-GPS (the Finnish equipment supplier) the equipment was CE-approved, certified by ETSI, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, and placed on the market.As of December 2017, with well over 900 systems installed in the UK and around the world, we have an impressive customer base. They mainly fall into a handful of categories, although I am always amazed at the diverse range of applications for such technology:Fire & Rescue Services – providing GPS signal inside fire stations so that data terminals in the appliances always receive a live GPS signal and, more importantly, do not experience satellite-acquisition delay when leaving the station.Police Forces – providing GPS signal inside police stations and garages for basically the same reasons as the fire service - the exact location of assets is known at all times. Asset tracking companies - allowing them to operate GPS-enabled equipment indoors, instead of having to remove equipment to the car park.Avionics companies – a GPS signal inside a hangar allows testing of navigation equipment while under cover.
