  • Transition Town Totnes Ltd
    Secretary, Transition Parramatta
    Transition Town Totnes Ltd Nov 2016 - Apr 2017
    Parramatta, Western Sydney
    I was invited to be Secretary of Transition Parramatta, including because of my background living and studying in Transition Town Totnes, and involvements in Transition Albany (WA), Transition South West Western Australia, Transition Newcastle (NSW).The notion of "Transition," in the global Transition Towns Network, as envisaged by Rob Hopkins, is to transition post-peak-oil, climate change, and global financial instability. (This vision informed my Masters studies in Economics for Transition Schumacher College 2012-2013)"Unfortunate" is not necessarily the operative word, but describes the state that Transition Parramatta wound up shortly after my appointment because of low community participation in this community group.➢ I am, and have been an active member of the Transition Network: an international community engagement program, since 2001. The Transition Network exists to implement voluntary community/residential-scale participation and engage local solutions to the complex interrelated problems of climate change, peak oil, global financial instability. In 2001, I was an active member of Transition Albany (WA), before moving to the town of Totnes in the UK (where the Transition model was born) to undertake my MA studies in Economics for Transition. On my rearrival in Australia I was an active participant and contributer to Transition Newcastle for five months. I was involved in “nationalising” the resources (developed in Newcastle) for the local program “Transition Streets Challenge”, which is specifically targeted at domestic awareness and behaviour change in relation to water, energy consumption, food procurement, waste and other environmental concerns;
