Currently starting my first year as a PhD student at the John Innes Centre, studying the epigenetic control of effector genes in wheat rust and wheat blast fungi.As a graduate from the University of Bath, I bring a strong biochemistry foundation from my core units based in molecular biology, proteins, and enzymology, which were complemented by a broad range of additional units including plant physiology and biochemistry, genetics, genomics, cell biology, cancer biology, infection and immunity, and pharmacology of regenerative medicine.During my industrial placement year at Cellected Ltd., I acquired skills in culturing and maintaining induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), developing and optimising protocols, and utilising imaging techniques. This experience, coupled with my final year university project investigating the anti-cancer activities of capsaicin, has equipped me with robust lab skills, including data analysis using Excel and GraphPad Prism, and a thorough understanding of cell biology.
