I've volunteered for 400+ hours as a high-schooler at my local veterinary clinic as an Assistant Veterinary Technician adding experiences such as assisting in surgery, drawing up vaccines, assisting in surgery post-op, knowing how to use standard veterinary equipment around the facility such as an autoclave, ultrasound machine, otoscope, refractometer, blood machine, etc. My crowning achievement was being the only employee in the office outside of the vet 1 minute before closing time and we had an emergency surgery where I had to gown up as the head assistant to the vet and go hands on into the surgery where we eventually were able to save the pets life. My second job was a lifeguard at the city of Austin where I saved a child in the deep end who started drowning after they had jumped off the diving board my first day on the job. My duties were to look over the individuals within the water and the water chemistry while keeping those swimmers safe. I was a senior sales associate with Leslies Pool Supply store for 2+ years where I learned the ins and outs of the pool industry plus a vast experience within customer relations that I previously didn't have in my professional arsenal. My current occupation is a team member at Durrell dining hall at Colorado State University. My duties include serving patrons food, maintaining and cleaning the facility, cleaning dishes, collaborating with co-workers on how to best accomplish tasks, etc. My interpersonal teambuilding skills have definitely taken a leap this year working at Durrell having to work in a new environment and adjusting to the coronavirus precautions put in place have definitely instilled a high level of responsibility in me as a student employee, but it's a responsibility I definitely appreciate the opportunity in having at such a young stage in my career.
