“In my physical eight days as Chief Communications Officer for Saint Louis Public Schools, I came face-to-face with the root causes of the failures in public education. The environment was the most dysfunctional, toxic, and distracting I’ve ever experienced. From the school board to the city’s executive leadership and the predominantly white-owned media, every level of influence plays a role in perpetuating Saint Louis Public Schools’ role in the school-to-prison pipeline. Corruption and incompetence perpetuates every level of the system.My heart aches for the youth and families in this city, who have been systematically drained of hope and opportunity. False narratives and deliberate misinformation were weaponized to undermine those working to dismantle decades of corruption and create meaningful change.
