East Carolina University Maker's Art Residency is a program funded by the ECU Honor's College in which three students are chosen and funded to create a set of works in any medium to be displayed in a gallery every year in March based on a given theme. The theme for the 2019-2020 year is "Growth," to be presented on March 21st. The medium my work is in is ceramic. Description of work to be added below upon completion of gallery pieces.

At the Office for Equity and Diversity, I am responsible for office receptionist and secretarial duties as well as event planning and facilitation, specific research projects, the creation of online surveys and resources, and serving as a liaison in my community for upholding standards of diveristy and justice at ECU and the surrounding area.Current Activities: Creating Diversity Resource Guide for integrating ECU students and faculty/staff and planning and facilitation of Emerging Scholars.

During the summer of 2019, I studied abroad in Granada, Spain, where I lived with a host family and attended classes at the Universidad de Granada. I took classes pertaining to Intermediate Spanish language and grammar, civilization and culture of Latin America, and Latin American literature. While living in Spain I also had the opportunity to travel to many historic sites and destinations across cities in Andalusia and Morrocco, Africa.

Barriers to higher education in the Latino population is a study being performed by Katherine Ford Ph.D. This study is aimed at evaluating the experiences of Latino/Latinx students, and their parents, who attend the Grady White Boy and Girls Club of the Coastal Plains to try to understand their perceptions of the barriers they face when pursuing higher education. In the literature that we have reviewed so far, we have found that there is extremely low enrollment in higher education in Latino students, and a very large achievement gap in Latino students when compared to other racial groups.In the completion of this project, we were able to complete 3 informational booklets in both Spanish and English explaining the types of higher education, funding for higher education, and general knowledge about the accessibility and pursuing higher education which we were able to give to Latinx students and parents at the Boys and Girls Club of Pitt County Grady White location, along with providing interactive tours at Pitt Community College and East Carolina University. For this research, I also received an URCA grant (undergraduate research and creative achievement award) which awarded me a stipend to fund my work done with the project.

As for my responsibilities at the cash register, I was in charge of completing transactions for online and in-store customers as well as utilizing customer service skills in maintaining relationships with customers and keeping the space clean and organized. As for my responsibilities on the sales floor, I was tasked with keeping the store organized and stocked, assisting customers, selling products, and upholding the integrity of the establishment through good customer service interactions.I transferred from the Smithfield location to the Greenville location in September of 2018 in order to continue working during the school year.

I was the main face and voice of the interactions with customers. I was tasked with taking orders, maintaining good customer relationships, doing fast math to make sure that customers got the best deals, handling food, maintaining the standard of the food presented, communicating with team members on the food line, and keeping an orderly and clean cashier station. I was also in charge of counting my drawer and processing the till to make sure the correct amount of money was deposited into the safe at the end of my shift.
