I work on the development of in-vitro diagnostic tests (IVD medical devices) based on metabolic marker profiles (metabolomics/biomarker development). We use the power of NMR-spectroscopy to develop fully automated test systems ready for routine diagnostics. My department covers two main areas:1) Clinical DevelopmentEvaluation of literature evidence, establishing possible use cases, work with medical experts and study partners, design and execution of discovery and validation studies for product development, scientific projects with academic partners, participation in IVD development, ... 2) Biostatistics and biomarker signature modeling.E.g. statistical design and analysis of studies, development and validation of machine learning models for diagnostic marker signatures, bioinformatics for NMR-data analysis, development of automated reports and frameworks, data management, development of prototype software (in cooperation with software development department), ...

Dept. of Genome oriented BioinformaticsContinued the work described below and expanded field of interest further: Gene-expression analysis (microarrays, qPCR), statistical analysis of clinical data in collaboration projects with medical partners, analysis and prediction of miRNAs and their targets, analysis of mass-spectrometry data, biological network analysis, ...Supervision of scientists on the bachelor, master and PhD level.In addition, I was strongly involved in teaching bioinformatics (bachelor and master level in the Munich bioinformatics program, as well as life science students).
