I was a kid who hated school but loved learning. I was a kid who loved learning and often failed miserably at it. Until I failed enough and learned enough to find the answers within and out, which made me into the teacher I am today - constantly learning and raising my standards while accepting myself fully. I learned mindfulness, the power of 'why' and the power of asking questions altogether. I realised I could and should be my own teacher, even though I have always been blessed with amazing teachers in my life. Craving creativity and freedom, lacking the ability to stay focused on the 'boring' and 'complicated' tasks, needing high stimualtion, and feeling deeply insecure about my learning 'problems' turned out to be those kind of challenges that you have to complete before you can be accepted into whatever that is you want. In my case, the job that would truly mean something to me. Eventually, I turned my learning weaknesses into my teaching strengths. And though the struggle and insecurities were a real downer, what that experience really was is my step one on the path that I can't even say I chose since my job, my personality and my entire life have been so miraculously intertwined from the very beginning. As though it all had to happen this way, and I'm just grateful to be enjoying the job that is truly all-consuming and particularly demanding, but in a way that builds you up and gives you the feeling of drive and peace all at the same time.Needless to say, I'm for independent teaching. I'm also a passive dancer - failing this dream has helped me build my biggest dream. I have huge respect for athletes and have always admired an athlete's mindset. And that's how Nathan Scott helped my younger school-self learn English. And since then, as I've said on my bria-kim-dot-com website, I’ve been learning and teaching English with an athlete mindset, which I find to be a cornerstone of language learning. And, of course, teaching as well. As a teacher, I believe in small steps, personal responsibility, win-win relationships and hard work - that kind of hard work which does not seem hard when you have the right attitude and intentionally make it fun. My goal is to guide learners to their inner teacher and show them the beauty of taking responsibility for their learning success. I strongly believe that the student is also an artist, who is continuously working on building a living masterpiece. And I'm grateful to be part of it.
