Private practice of career counseling, using my developed and developing wisdom to help people help themselves to better career satisfaction. Work with men and women ages 23-73 applying a wide variety of career exploration and job search strategies to assist their movement toward finding, maintaining, and growing meaningful work.

Opened new office (part-time) with new mission, offering exploratory learning opportunities on career and workplace issues for workers of all ages and professions.

As Administrator:Directed organizational growth that resulted in development from small alumnae counseling service (counseling 923 women in 1977) to a multi-faceted, high quality program serving the Boston community (over 10,000 people in 1995).Oversaw and administered overall office operations, including counseling, administrative, and program functions. Established goals, formulated policy, determined long and short range priorities.Prepared and monitored annual budget exceeding $420,000.Established fee-for-service counseling and programs that earned in excess of $120,000 yearly.Interviewed, screened, hired, trained, evaluated and supervised staff of eleven regular employees (7.5 FTE) and up to twelve student staff.As Program Planner: Initiated, developed, designed, oversaw, and presented career programs that served a broad population ranging in age from 20 to 70, including Radcliffe alumnae, seniors, career professionals, and the public. Programs included seminars, workshops, conferences, forums, and panels which numbered between 80 and 110 in any one year.Co-produced two nationally distributed videos on career counseling: the award-winning Not Just a Job: Career Planning for Women and Life's Work: Four Approaches to Career Counseling. Kept continuously current on and interpreted employment trends to design appropriate, innovative programs in anticipation of market and client needs.As Public Relations Representative: Served as spokesperson for the office in public forums, on radio, on television, both within and outside the Radcliffe and Harvard communities; wrote occasional articles. Acted as liaison with press.As Counselor: Counseled adult women and men regarding future career plans. Helped define and explore interests and skills, long and short term goals, need for further training.Advised on job-hunting techniques, interviewing skills, salary negotiations, and specific employment issues, such as age discrimination. Led workshops.

Founded, organized, and coordinated a peer self-help counseling community, which grew from two members to over 650 students and 35 teachers in five years.Taught weekly classes in co-counseling to adults, up to five classes a week with approximately 20 students per class.Trained co-counseling teachers in individual and group sessions.Led 6 day-long workshops yearly on peer counseling for 20 to 30 participants.Administered all aspects of counseling community including teachers meetings, budget, newsletter, long term planning, scheduling regular week-long workshops for 60 to 80 people.
