As a Senior Executive with over 30 years of experience, Phyllis Klein has been at the forefront of the real estate finance industry and is a nationally known resource and advocate for multifamily housing. She has led high-performing teams in various financial institutions initiating over $50B in loans over her career. She navigated the tumultuous cycles of the real estate industry including the Great Financial Crisis and the pandemic with creativity, fortitude and leadership.As SVP of Agency Production at Capital One, a top 10 US Commercial Bank, Phyllis led a production team that originated in excess of $10B annually. Under her leadership, Capital One became aa top 10 Fannie Mae lender and a top 5 Freddie Mac lender. Phyllis was elected to serve as the Chair of the DUS Advisory Council and is on the board of COMBOG (the Multifamily governing board of the Mortgage Bankers Association. Phyllis also serves on the Executive Committee of the Finance Committee for NMHC (National Multifamily Housing Council), the multifamily industry leadership advocacy organization.Prior to joining Capital One, Phyllis had an 18-year career at Fannie Mae serving as Vice President of Customer Engagement where she managed the top 100 borrowers at Fannie Mae, Structured Finance, and Seniors Housing.Phyllis is a nationally-known advocate for affordable housing. In 1988, the California State Treasurer appointed Phyllis the responsibility of allocating more than $5B in tax-exempt bonds for the State, including implementing an extensive revamp of the allocation system. She was responsible for creating precedent setting regulations, which transformed the system to emphasize public benefits.Phyllis also held a variety of executive roles within the Real Estate Group at Wells Fargo and Union Bank.
