I began working at Pizza Hut in Asheville as a waitress with no prior experience. After a short time I was given the responsibility of overseeing the evening waitstaff, which involved calling applicants, setting up interview appointments, conducting the interviews and actually hiring the waitstaff. During this time, I was also running the cash register, doing the books at closing, making cash deposits, and counting inventory. The last year I was at Pizza Hut, I gained certificates in all positions/duties. I learned some valuable lessons working in the service industry that helped me to become the employee I am today. I first stepped foot on A-B Tech back in 1993 in order to acquire my GED. As soon as that was completed I enrolled in the Accounting program. In 1994 I became a work study student and began working for the Library under Shirley McLaughlin, Director, and Linda Davis, Cataloger and my immediate supervisor who I learned many things from. I soon was able to handle tasks that other work studies were not allowed to do (checked in/out materials, handled money, etc.). After I graduated in 1996 and received my A.A.S. degree I was hired as a part time Library Clerk over the summer while Linda Davis was out on Educational Leave. As a part time employee, I took care of requsitions, receiving shipments and approving payment, helped out at the circulation desk, helped conduct inventory, maintained files and handled all Interlibrary Loans. When a position opened up in the Library that fall, I was hired full time as the Library Assistant for Acquisitions/Interlibrary Loans. I worked in that role for 9 years until I was promoted as the Administrative Assistant (formerly Secretary) to the Dean of Academic Success (formerly known as Learning Resources). That has been updated recently to Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Wellness, Hospitality, and Public Service.
