I lead the Community Development Trust on the sunny and windy island of Tiree, supporting the community led regeneration of the island's economy and local community. We own and operate multiple community owned facilities including docking facilities, moorings and the wind turbine "Tilly", as well as providing youth activities and funding for local community projects, and hosting of the local Ranger.

I am involved in running projects aimed at supporting disabled people into employment and engagement with politics and civic life. Currently focussed on our Access to Elected Office and Access to Politics projects, working to address under-representation of disabled people and making the case for a fund to pay for reasonable adjustment costs for disabled people to participate fully in politics and getting elected. Also supporting paid internship programmes for disabled people in politics and the third sector.

I also take on project development work and facilitation/training, and have speciliased knowledge in student volunteering and employability.

I worked as a driving instructor with Red Driving School before starting a full time job and going part-time independent as an approved driving instructor.

I had served as voluntary Chair of the organisation for several years. When the organisation agreed a new partnership and moved in with the Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations I was appointed to a new part time staff post to carry out partnership and development work, secure the future funding of the organisation and manage future staff and projects. Sadly SVS was closed down in early 2014 due to an ongoing lack of board membership and activity and organisational funding.

I have been a board member of SVS for several years, and took up the post of Chair in May 2005. I have worked with other board members and our one staff post to develop the organisation, establish relationships with key stakeholders, and we are working towards securing funding to firmly establish the organisation as a key facilitator in the Scottish volunteering sector. We have maintained a partnership with Volunteer Development Scotland for many years, and they have housed our staff post for the past three years.

Having been involved in the party for a few years now I joined the Operations Committee (the executive management body of the party responsible for its legal administration) in 2008. At the end of that year I was elected as its Vice Convenor, but then immediately became the Acting Convenor due to the unexpected withdrawal of the only Convenor candidate. In early 2009 I took on the additional role of Campaigns Officer - one of the legally required positions a political party is meant to have, and the one legally responsible for ensuring that party election expenditure is conducted properly, legally, and is reported to the Electoral Commission. I was elected Convenor the following year, but stood down mid-term due to some internal party issues.I also undertook other roles for my local Branch party in Edinburgh. All roles I held with the SGP were on a voluntary basis.

Having served on the CC for around two years, I was elected chair at the office bearer elections following the 2009 general local election of CC members in Edinburgh. I stepped down in 2010 due to my unexpected move to another part of the city.

I became a board member of VDS through my involvement with Student Volunteering Scotland, when I was appointed as a representative of that organisation. In 2005 I was elected to the board by the membership of the organisation. In 2007 I was required to go for re-election under the new board structure, and was successfully re-elected for a final 3 year term. In August 2009 with regret I officially resigned from the VDS Board as a result of an ongoing dispute over my participation in conversations at Supporting Voluntary Action Think Tank events.

I ran the volunteering program in Scotland for RNID - which is the largest charity in the UK working to change the world for deaf and hard of hearing people (1 in 7 of the UK population).
