From an initial employee base of 3, the Indian office employed 43 people by 2017. Differentiated Red Planet from local workplace practices such as 7 day working weeks and low pay by closing the office at the weekend and providing attractive benefits such as health insurance for employee plus parents, small loans (to buy a first moped for example) as well as career progression opportunities both in India and to the US office. In a local culture where people aspire to be "jumpers" transferring every six months the results speak for themselves, with some early employees still with us 10+ years later.Re-positioned Red Planet as “the Southwest airlines of what we do” creating a unique selling point for clients in an increasingly crowded high-cost consulting space. Offered clients blended rates using a mixture of US and India resources with the promise that they would deal directly with the US face of the business.Created a pragmatic project estimation process to identify, price and mitigate schedule/technical/delivery risks, probe for unwritten requirements and generate an achievable timeline. Lead and managed multiple teams to engineer and deliver complex C++/Java/Magik geospatial software solutions, analytics and products for Fortune 500 businesses (General Electric, Southern Company, Edison International, Eversource, Con Ed, Verizon, Lockheed Martin etc.) as well as many local cooperatives and municipalities. Engineered a MapReduce framework to allow massive parallelization of big geospatial data operations for M&A, OMS and other mission critical operations. This used localized data via SWMFS to implement a Hadoop style dfs, minimizing node to node block traffic. Statistical map learning and data aggregation algorithms were later implemented to improve work division. YARN, JobTracker and TaskTracker modules used pre-existing atomic queuing and long transaction data functions to provide timely failover and ensure fault tolerance. It’s a complex and deep computing problem where analysis frequently drives cross functional teamwork. It’s very satisfying to see a multifaceted attack on a problem have immediate visibility up and down the managerial hierarchy – by shrinking a multi day process to a few hours project days are created out of thin air.15+ years leading, managing and facilitating cross functional teams to build geospatial, OMS and web service software solutions using agile and a variety of software development lifecycle models.Automated the collection of infrared sensor driving survey map data and automated statistical analysis of error and log file output.Developed complex spatial data analytics, engineered and delivered a software solution to serve outage maps via a mobile application and the web to SCE’s 15m customers.Analyzed big datasets to home in on inefficiencies in manual map data cleanup processes optimize overall system performance and identify system architecture issues.Wrote and delivered custom training materials both for clients and new employees.
