Modern electronic control units (ECU) increasingly integrate safety-relevant functions, which are mainly implemented in software. Within the ECU, protection mechanisms must ensure that safety-relevant software components can execute while being isolated from the interference of external faults. The isolation boundaries are defined by a partitioning in time and space and technically realised by mechanisms such as memory protection and run-time monitoring.The choice of isolation boundaries significantly determines the quality of isolation and the protection from interference. However these isolation boundaries cause considerable run-time overhead due to reconfiguration on context switches and privileged operations. The aim of the internship is to develop a methodology for the analysis of isolation characteristics, the analysis of run-time overhead different partitions may imply and qualitatively compares the associated trade-offs.
