I worked as a deckhand doing wash downs, detailing, polishing stainless, line handling, window cleaning in a harness, launching/driving tenders and jet skis, sanding teak, washing teak and replacing plugs, buffing and waxing, engine room watches, assisting the engineer at times, cleaning bilges, fueling, watch duties when docked, bridge watches, anchoring procedures and bar tending. When guests are on board, we get all the toys out and instruct/explain, where necessary, how to use them. The toys include Jet Skis, Sea Bobs, SUP boards, tubing, and wake boarding. Occasionally we would fish with the guests and assist them where needed.

My job involves designing Solar PV systems with computer software, sending clients the quotes and also deal with tenders. I am also involved in weather data vs plant yield analysis, and to see how local climate plays a role in solar PV design.

I was working for Retosolar part-time whilst studying. I was a technical assistant and started with downloading meteorological data off a Spanish website, that has almost all the SAWS data. I used the data to look at weather patterns and cycles. The data is valuable as estimated solar radiation (daily) can be calculated from meteorological factors.Whilst doing my climatology Honors at UCT, it was appropriate to do my thesis through Retosolar. In my thesis I created a consolidated solar map of Southern Africa, combining satellite and observed data whilst taking climatic influences into account. I then specifically looked at areas in the Northern Cape where radiation rates are highest. Temperature was factored into the thesis, for locating areas most suitable for solar power plants. I used Arc-GIS to map solar radiation and contour lines for temperature.
