About Pierre Bet
Dr. Pierre M. Bet is a hospital pharmacist -clinical pharmacologist and researcher. He promotes PHARMACOGENETICS in clinical practice and initiated the www.mijnDNAmedicatiepas.nl project. In his PhD-thesis he studied pharmacotherapy and pharmacogenetics of antidepressants in the Netherlands Study on Depression and Anxiety (NESDA) in Amsterdam. He is currently involved in many depression studies like OPERA, TEMPO, RESET, and INFLAMED. He teaches pharmacogenetics to physicians and pharmacists.He is involved in many CLINICAL TRIALS at the Amsterdam University Medical Centers. He has prepared and organized Investigational Medicinal Products for over 75 investigator initiated trials and has facilitated over 800 other clinical trials. The Netherlands Study On Depression And Anxiety (Nesda)
Many NESDA participants use medication for depression and/or anxiety. In some cases these drugs are effective, but other people experience side-effects and/or no benefits. This often leads to many medication switches before the most suitable drug is found for the patient. There is some evidence that the responds to medication is partly genetically determined. Because the genetic material, the DNA, of NESDA participants is available, we can reveal the nature of this association. The results of our study may in the future help pre-selecting the right drug for the right patient.
