My PhD thesis is about advanced algorithms for tomography, and their high-throughput implementation.Tomography consists in reconstructing, from a set of radiographs, the 3D interior of a scanned object. It finds a wide range of applications : medical imaging, systems characterization, paleontology.Modern tomography has to address a whole variety of challenges ; among them are improved spatial resolution, limited and noisy data, artefacts, data volumes.These challenges need to be addressed by advanced methods. My work typically involves these steps : - Designing innovative reconstruction approaches - Prototyping advanced reconstruction algorithms, based on recent advances in convex analysis - Implementing these algorithms on parallel architectures (GPU and distributed nodes) to achieve high performances.

Security assessment of cryptographic devices with side channel attacks.The security of cryptographic devices, for example smart cards, is a major concern.A way to break the security of these devices is called side-channel attacks. By monitoring the power activity during cryptographic operations, an analysis can recognize what operation is actually done, and eventually recover the secret key. The power activity (eg. electricity consumption) of a smart card can thus "leak" the crucial data.To perform a power analysis, it is essential that the curves are perfectly aligned. Hardware protections (unstable clock frequency, random jitter) make the alignment even more difficult.This project aimed at developing new alignment procedures based on pattern recognition, and to implement it at high speed to process gigabytes of data.
