Pieter Bester holds a B.Admin Degree from Unisa and a Post Graduate Higher Diploma in Administrative Law and Municipal Law from the University of Johannesburg (previously RAU). He also holds a National Diploma in Public Administration and a Diploma of the Institute for Local Government Management of SA. He has over 20 years company secretarial and corporate governance experience. He was the Group Company Secretary of the Industrial Development Corporation of SA (IDC) and Group Company Secretary of PSG Investment Bank prior to its take-over by Absa. He worked in the Absa Company Secretarial Department for 8 years as Company Secretary for a portfolio of Companies within the Absa Group, including MEEG Bank (the former Bank of Transkei) and Woolworths Financial Services (Pty) Ltd, amongst others. He also worked as Assistant Group Company Secretary at Sasfin Bank Limited as Head of the Company Secretarial department for eight years. He has extensive experience in company secretarial and corporate governance practise. This includes providing support to the board of directors and committees, corporate governance advice, annual reports and director orientation and training. He has experience in the JSE Listings Requirements as well as considerable knowledge of the Banks Act and its regulations, the Companies Act and the King IV Report on Corporate Governance. After leaving Sasfin Bank he was appointed Company Secretary of Grindrod Bank Limited in a contract position with the added responsibility to mentor an identified successor to succeed him as Company Secretary of Grindrod Bank. This was achieved and the successor succeeded him from 1 November 2022. His contract at Grindrod Bank was extended for a further period on a month to month basis and is currently employed as Governance Consultant.Still enjoying good health, Pieter is open to new opportunities to provide company secretarial and governance services to companies who may want to benefit from his considerable knowledge and experience.
