Together with enthousiastic and forward driven colleagues from different grid operators, I have the honor to be part of the Energy Transition team of Netbeheer Nederland. This team addresses all themes and changes that Grid Operators are challenged by, due to the energy transition. My specialism is related to the impact, and stimulation, of the introduction of sustainable gases. Our main objectives are a safe and cost effective transformation of the current gas grid to a network with numerous distributed sustainable sources and energy gaseous energy carriers like hydrogen and biomethane. The working group 'sustainable gases' is a knowledge centre, where grid operators discuss and develop policies on necessary topics and also on new functionalities like measuring gas quality, development of smart gas grids and balancing supply and demand.

In 2015 we initiated the 'Stix' concept to maximize the share of sustainable gas in our network as a strategical goal. Our mission was to make green gas mainstream in the gas distribution grids of The Netherlands. We developed and implemented technical innovations like advanced pressure management, real time grid modelling, accompanied with the financial structure for cost-effective grid investment. Equal to this successful approach we started 'Hyxx' in 2018, aimed at implementing hydrogen innovation projects in The Netherlands. We actively participate in national initiatives in this field like The Green Village, Stichting Groen Gas Nederland and Netbeheer Nederland to address regulative and market issues related to the introduction of sustainable gases.
