Design:Detailed design of an industrial/consumer telematics ecosystem. This includes self designed remote sensors, telematics user interfaces and APIs. The product is in the prototyping phase.Consulting:Design and development work for Bell Equipment focussed on inter-OEM data sharing of telematics data, AEMP v1.0, AEMP v2.0 and ISO-15143 standards, full stack server side development.

Designing and manufacturing of Bell Equipment line testing equipment for the onboard weighing systems.Maintenance and development of the support software suite used for field testing and programming as part of aftermarket support for all Bell Equipment machines. This included embedded software mostly written in C, server side service software written in C++, server side web interface with database interactions written in PHP, database architecture procedures and functions using MySQL, RESTful API data manipulation using various programming languages including Python.Maintenance and development of the human interface devises (HID) used on the E-Series Articulating Dumping Trucks (ADT) and specialised custom machinery. These projects consisted mostly of C++ programming for a resource constraint embedded Windows CE environment.Mercedes and MTU engine controller interface testing. This was for development and integration for our controllers, setting parameter data, and for support using Mercedes Minidiag and Xentry devices and software. I implementated the Euro6/Tier4 final emissions standards of the Bell E-Series ADT range.Miscellaneous projects to aid with software releases and automation thereof (full stack).

Designing and prototyping of board level products.Rigorous environmental line testing of realtime (FPGA based) military and industrial grade products.Designing of automate testing equipment and software used during the manufacturing process.Installations of radio interface and control systems for military ships in the Middle East, working with engineers from other companies as part of the installation process.Designing and prototyping of grid connected renewable energy (focused on solar power) monitoring systems and remote logging systems (using cellular data communication and Wispernet). Embedded projects are written in C for Fujitsu embedded processors, while PC interface software packages are written in C++. C and Python is used when writing test programs and scripts.

Management of the ‘Toolroom’ division. The Toolroom is responsible for the maintenance of tooling (consumable) components for The Swartland Groups sawing, plaining and moulding machines.Responsibilities included supervision of the Toolroom staff, performing research into more efficient tooling and servicing techniques and schedules and the implementation thereof to increase tool life, lowering wastage, decreasing tool inventory and serve the manufacturing process in the most efficient, cost effective manner.In my private capacity I developed a software package (written in C++ using Qt for the windowing toolkit and MySQL as the database) to track components in the system and monitor performance of the consumables.During the final months at the company I supervised the running and maintenance of the boilers.
