Prof. Dr. Ir. Pieter Klapwijk, born in Amsterdam, grew up in Brussels. He is currently active as one of the co-founders of the startup AgOS, which combines blockchain with Supply Chain Finance for agricultural supply chains. He is also emeritus professor in Supply Chain Management Economics and Supply Chain Finance at Nyenrode Business University. He is also a director and co-founder of the Supply Chain Finance Community and an independent consultant in this field.Klapwijk received his "Baccalaureat" from the European School in Brussels in 1968. He then studied physics at Delft University of Technology with an "intermezzo" of a year of philosophy in Amsterdam. After graduating in 1975, he worked at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), an executive arm of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in Jordan and Bangladesh until 1980. Pieter Klapwijk obtained his second master's degree in Management Science at Imperial College in London, where he subsequently initiated the "University spin-off" ORES, a company in the field of operations research. In collaboration with a number of world-famous scientists, ORES was launched in mid-1982 and was eventually taken over by another company in the sector in 1987.At the end of 1987 he joined the international "Management Consultancy" company A.T. Kearney, specialising in logistics and later in Supply Chains. In this field he managed many projects, mostly for multinational companies. In 1996 he obtained his PhD in Regional Economics at the University of Amsterdam. Klapwijk worked 100% at A. T. Kearney until 1995. He then combined this with work for management and investment company Trimoteur, until 2000. Klapwijk is co-founder of Trimoteur, which was at the cradle of Dutch postal company Sandd.
