About Pinal Shah

I have spent my career thus far in the tech policy field creating policies around countering harmful online content, and helping to ensure digital products are designed with a user's best interest in mind. Prior to joining DoubleVerify, I served as the Global Head of Policy for Trust & Safety at Amazon Web Services, leading the strategy for company policy on abusive online content.  Before that, I was a Sr. Behavioral Engineer at Robinhood, where I developed a portfolio on countering misinformation & disinformation, a content moderation model for new products, and designed and implemented the company's "Safety by Design" process, ensuring transparency and safety were built into products & features. Prior to Robinhood, I helped expand the Privacy team at Lyft, crafting data ethics practices, safeguarding users’ private data, and ensuring compliance with CCPA and GDPR. Under the Obama Administration, I was appointed to advise the Undersecretary's office at the Department of Homeland Security’s Science & Technology Directorate, working on policies and programs to help safeguard the nation, including: developing partnerships with foreign nation partners on shared national security challenges, crafting policy on protecting the National Capital Region from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and working with partners like the NFL in obtaining SAFETY Act protections. An avid global traveler, I am also multilingual, speaking Gujarati, Spanish, Italian, and English fluently, and I've worked with partners all over the globe in my professional pursuits. In 2016, I was selected by the White House to be a part of the inaugural class of Technology and Innovation Fellows. I'm currently an Advisor to the Trust & Safety Professionals Association, former member of Aspen Digital's "Virtually Human" working group, and former Fellow of the Internet Law and Policy Foundry, a network I use to geek out with my fellow tech policy professionals. I am a proud alum of Howard University School of Law and UC Berkeley.
