Principal/Senior Project ManagerCommunity Engagement Liaison Services (Cels) Jun 2016 - PresentPortland, Oregon AreaThe Community Engagement Liaison Services (CELs) is a community engagement and language interpretation program that assists city government, private entities and corporations to better achieve communication, and public engagement. This program helps integrating immigrant, BIPOC and refugee communities into the life of our communities.CELs provide effective avenues for authentic public participation. Sharing public services, benefits, and burdens more equitably requires intentional engagement of underserved communities. Having our many communities participate fully in our robust public life requires authentic partnerships. Simply hiring an interpreter to speak to populations you hope will show up is not true civic engagement and will not produce equity. CELs liaisons, on the other hand, can identify specific ethno-cultural and language communities within targeted service areas to encourage and develop genuine and representative public participation.CELs liaisons are community leaders that came from all four corners of the globe. CELs program currently have more than 80 liaisons and they are experienced and trained civic activists, who are respected elders or advocates active in their communities and fluent in English; who are available to assist public involvement programs with interpretation and facilitation services that include cultural, legal, medical, social and technical etc. CELs is the recipient of the 2020 WMSWCD Green Award.
