About Pedro Pinho

I'm a physicist specializing in Integrated Photonics and Semiconductors, currently pursuing my PhD in Physics at UNICAMP. My research focuses on the dynamics of dissipative coupling between photons and phonons in cavity optomechanical systems. I have hands-on international experience in semiconductor nanofabrication and have worked on personal projects involving machine learning, Kaggle competitions, and computational work using Python and SQL. I'm always eager to take on new challenges and explore innovative applications of physics in emerging technologies.

This project aims to develop micro and nanometric structures that will explore different geometries and materials to improve the non-linear interaction between photons and phonons. Our goal is to improve the dissipative optomechanical coupling, understand the limiting effects of each material and, taking advantage of the new capabilities of the materials, create fundamental and applied knowledge in integrated photonic devices. As a final objective, devices with highly dissipative and dispersive coupling will be manufactured based on passive structures from III-V, silicon and nitride alloys. In the active case, we will study and possibly demonstrate the coupling between relaxation oscillations in the laser emission with optomechanical vibrations. The project will rely on the design of the structures supported by numerical simulations and the consequent fabrication using typical techniques for Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) devices. The characterizations of the sources will be done by means of transmission or reflection measures in tapered optical fibers. Most of the manufacturing and preparation of the samples will be carried out at the IFGW Device Research Laboratory - UNICAMP, at the Semiconductor Components and Nanotechnology Center - UNICAMP, and at MackGraphe Lab - Mackenzie.

Preparation of plataforms that allows the study of the interaction between artificial cell membranes and small particles. The project is divided in two parts, the first one: Study and characterization of arrays of nanopores on SiN/Cr layers deposited in optical transparent substrate (Fused Silica). The second one: Formation and characterization of optically active (plasmonic) structures inside the pores - gold nanocones of diameters ranging from 50 nm to 200 nm. The pores once filled with specified liquids can be used to simulate a simplistic cell. The gold nanomenhirs work as antennas to study transport properties on the phospholipid layer.
