Freelance Picture Researcher at The Times.I am currently freelancing at The Times Newspaper. I work across a variety of departments; researching images for News, Features, Foreign, Obits, Sport, Business and the Scottish edition. This is a high-pressured, deadline-focussed position which I am enjoying immensely. During my time here I research pictures using a huge variety of Picture Agencies as well as PR Companies, members of the public and wherever else I need to go to find images. This position has also required me to contact people and/or agencies across the world including Germany, the US, Hong Kong and Australia.The wealth of experience I have gained from my time here is immense and has been invaluable in my transition from designer to picture researcher.

In addition to the positions above in my current capacity as a freelancer I also work on a regular basis for Reed Business Information with whom I travel frequently to Dubai, Geneva, Paris, Berlin, Orlando and Las Vegas as well as working from their Sutton offices. I have also worked on "What Hi-Fi" and "Four Four Two" magazines at Haymarket Publications; "The Rugby Paper", "The Football Paper" and "Late Tackle" for Greenways Publications; the sports desk at The Daily Mail and the sports desk at The Mirror among other jobs. This experience has included designing news, features and sports pages, picture research, image editing and writing listings.

I joined The Daily Star Sunday in 2002 and led the Art Department in creating the design of the paper; taking it from its inception to the launch in September 2002. My primary role was to design eye-catching news and features pages and to oversee the design of Take Five magazine and the sports pages. Another important part of my job was to closely liaise with the editor, the picture desk, the back bench, the reporters and the imaging departments to ensure that pages had the right balance between images and story content. I was responsible for a team of artists and ensured that the paper was drawn to style and to deadline. I took part in daily conference and also the news and features “Ideas Meeting“ during which I was required to make news, features and/or picture suggestions for the paper.Following the birth of my first daughter I swapped roles with my deputy and became Deputy Art Director in September 2004. My duties remained similar to the above with the exception that I was assisting and supporting the Art Director. In his absence I resumed my Art Director’s duties as above.
