After years of honing my skills as a lithographic craftsman, life threw a few curve balls and convinced me, it was time to take a leap of faith and carve a new path. Not an easy jump to make at any age but hey…nothing ventured, nothing gained.After a brief stint of training under a Master Pastry Chef (improving my own kitchen baking prowess was a nice perk), my feet landed on a solid base. I was proud to be an Assistant Store Manager/Senior Inventory Manager at the best legal branded Cannabis Retailer here in Canada: Spiritleaf- South Guelph!Working 30 plus years in commercial lithography/customer service laid the groundwork for this adventure. But nothing fully prepares you or teaches you, how to help manage the fast paced, constantly changing landscape of an entirely new type of retail business. But it was exciting! Between navigating multiple layers of legal government compliance, pulling numerous reports daily and creating a mountain of Excel Spread Sheets, I learned something new daily. I also fulfilled my “inner computer nerd side” by not only maintaining our computer network, but also designing and implementing improvements to the system. These were vital to our customer’s retail experience, which is completely centred on a digital purchasing platform.Evolving within my newly acquired skillset, I moved on from the retail aspect of inventory and I have now found myself working as a Coordinator in a Technical Distribution Centre. Fulfillment and inventory management seems to be my new role and this current opportunity has me working with communication infrastructure materials. The products we move and manage are large and the orders are often bulky in nature. I am excited to finally be certified on warehouse reach trucks, counter balanced fork lifts and fully trained in Fall Arrest protocols.I am a busy bee but as long as I can sneak in my regular training runs and fundraising charity events, life is grand. And like baking, you only get out what you put in, job careers and life!
