I used qualitative and quantitative research to inform my creation of short term strategies and long term visions for multiple products across the enterprise. Working with the guest facing search team, I defined a multi-year strategy to improve the user experience of searching for items on Target’s website and mobile app. I worked with a team of product owners and engineers to clarify personas and build a practice of learning based decision making for a variety of enterprise, data science tools. Lead Product Designer

Minneapolis, Mn, Us

I orchestrated product design for the new in-store checkout experiences including cashier checkout, self checkout and mobile checkout. I introduced design practices and guided product, design and engineering teams through workshops and regular design reviews which led to an efficient, cohesive team, building industry leading, in-store checkout experiences. One of my proudest career moments was launching a new checkout experience which replaced a huge binder of instructions with no need for an instruction manual at all. I led user experience for the creation of an internal promo planning software. Users successfully moved from bulky excel spreadsheets to a promo planning ecosystem where they could use past performance and ai based recommendations to inform future promotion strategies. I learned the value of using a design pattern library and brought that experience with me on every initiative going forward.

Lead Product Designer (Contractor)

Minneapolis, Mn, Us

I spearheaded a team of designers who created Cartwheel, a mobile, loyalty, coupon app, and Target’s first foray into digital products. Working with Target teams around the world and partner businesses, I learned the value of both user research and great partnerships. Cartwheel launched in 2013 and was a huge success. The app was eventually combined with Target’s flagship, shopping app and rebranded as Target Circle. I led user experience work for checkout on Target’s mobile website. By removing obstacles in the guest’s journey from cart and checkout, my work resulted in a 30% increase in conversion. I led the redesign of the digital weekly ad for mobile experiences, bringing Target’s weekly circular to everyone’s phone. I led junior designers from research through design and development and back to research again while redesigning the mobile My Account experience.

I defined and documented information architecture for a variety of online experiences ranging from micro-sites to large web applications, e-commerce experiences and social marketing efforts. A highlight of my time here was introducing augmented reality and working with a small team to win a SXSW contest which gained the company new business from Best Buy. We won by creating a website which used augmented reality and gesture based navigation to promote new music, movies and games using the public APIs of Best Buy and Billboard. That work lead us to creating an augmented reality marketing experience driven by Best Buy’s weekly circular.
