I am a nationally recognized educator with nearly 13 years of experience in journalism education.Born and raised in San Antonio, TX, I attended Texas State University after high school, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. I moved to Houston for my first big-boy job, teaching communication(s) at Aldine ISD. At that time, I started my master's program in communication studies at Sam Houston State University. After two years in Houston, I moved back to San Antonio to teach at Judson High School. I'm proud of my work revitalizing and managing a journalism program for almost a decade. I led a state and nationally-recognized student media program that included developing, editing, and producing multiple community-wide publications, managing six social media accounts with over 12,000 followers, creating sales and marketing plans, and, more importantly, growing multiple journalists. Journalism education is where much of my academic knowledge and success comes from!I've been involved with various nonprofit organizations and committees at the state and national levels, including mentoring new journalism advisers nationwide, coordinating the national Scholastic Journalism Week with the Journalism Education Association, and advocating for journalism education and media literacy with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. In 2024, I received my Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership with basic qualitative research focused on gatekeeping theory, scholastic journalism, media literacy, civic engagement, student leadership, student voice, and student censorship.I am currently in my 14th year in education. I've taught middle school for two years and high school for almost a decade, worked in central office administration, and been a college instructor for over seven years (collectively) with the University of Texas at San Antonio and Alamo Colleges.
