I am developing a concept called OSC@R (organisations societies and clubs at Ringmer) the focus and rating for any school is a gcse grade and formal study and this concept helps address the balance. An example is: if a student takes Duke of Edinburgh award they are very much involved in the OSC@R. OFSTED report May 2014'The organiser of OSC@R (Organisations, Societies and Clubs at Ringmer)generates a wealth of enrichment activities which are imaginative, stimulating and give students, and sometimes members of the local community, wonderful and varied opportunities beyond their lessons. Many activities involve students in volunteering and fund raising. Vulnerable students are particularly encouraged to participate.'Whole school Community CohesionI have set up groups called OPSS (Organisations, Parents, Students and staff). Each group contributes to local or global communities to help build stronger bonds. These groups work with many benefits including: Bringing business in to the College and to promote our College to local and global businesses. Bringing parents into the College with specific roles and volunteering opportunities. Bringing staff and students together with the parents and businesses to ultimately build effective links between different parts of the community to benefit everyone. A good example of this was a recent partnership Business Enterprise event that was held with Ringmer Community College and Roedean school. A local business call Masterpiece sponsored the event for year 9 students with parents, staff and students helping to run the fantastic two day event. The OPSS helps to engage parents in their childs education in a way that they can help this includes the parents that help and support the DoFE expeditions too. Show less
