Doctoral Researcher
My PhD research focusses on the issue of the translator’s visibility within digital paratextual spaces and how we can assess the translator’s visibility within complex multimodal constellations of both digital and non-digital paratextual materials. This theoretical work is complimented by a case study focussing on Jamie Bulloch’s English translations of Timur Vermes’ novels Er ist wieder da and Die Hungrigen und die Satten. My PhD project reflects my wider research interests of paratext theory, literary translation, the sociology of translation and contemporary literature in translation (particularly German literature).During my PhD, I have taught seminars and given lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students on literary translation and comparative literature. I have also led workshops for postgraduate researchers on internal eximation processes and vivas.In the second year of my PhD, I worked as clerical intern for the BCLA's John Dryden Translation Competition during which I over saw the administration and judging of over 100 English-language literary translations.I have presented findings from my PhD at various conferences in the UK, including the 6th Durham Postgraduate Conference in Translation Studies and the 3rd Leeds Centre for Translation Studies Conference in Translation and Interpreting Studies. I also participated in the 31st CETRA research summer school at KU Leuven's Antwerp campus in 2019.
