I am course leader for the BA Translation course and teach translation studies at all levels of this undergraduate programme. My current teaching covers introductory linguistics and cultural studies modules at level 4 and practical translation classes at level 5, as well as translation theory and oversight of the final year translation project at level 6. Alongside my teaching, I am also an active researcher and have published and edited works on translator visibility, digital paratextuality, the reception of German literature in translation, and research ethics in translation and translator studies.

Since completing a remote Digital Marketing internship in summer 2020, I have worked as a freelancer for V&Q Books. My role includes:• Developing publicity plans for upcoming titles; including sourcing copy from the publisher and creating AI sheets.• Sending ARCs to relevant literary editors and reviewers to secure reviews in national and regional media outlets.• Organisation of blog tours; including sending ARCs, pitching additional content (e.g., translator Q&As) and creation of promotional materials.• Creation and maintenance of review-contacts list (in Excel).• Organisation and participation in live promotional events, such as “Drink-along-a-Daughters” book launch.• Developing, pitching and facilitating translation workshops with universities and external partners, such as the Goethe Institut.• Supporting the completion of grant applications for outreach projects.• Sending out book orders placed by UK-based customers.

From June to September 2020, I completed a digital marketing project with V&Q Books to support their launch and the publishing of their first three titles. My role included:- Organising a two-week blog tour featuring a variety of content for all three of V&Q’s launch titles; including identifying relevant bloggers, reaching out and liaising with bloggers to schedule content; and continue to support the digital tour through to its completion.- Identifying and reaching out to other digital platforms to arrange coverage of V&Q’s first three titles; including magazines, podcasts and literary festivals.- Liaising between V&Q Books and academic institutions to arrange translation workshops for undergraduate and graduate students based around our translators and authors.- Support with other tasks where required, such as providing feedback and edits to draft documents.

I work as a freelance translator specialising in digital content; marketing materials and technical texts - with a passion for literature on the side. I work from German to English. I have experience translating, post-editing and reviewing translations.

My PhD research focusses on the issue of the translator’s visibility within digital paratextual spaces and how we can assess the translator’s visibility within complex multimodal constellations of both digital and non-digital paratextual materials. This theoretical work is complimented by a case study focussing on Jamie Bulloch’s English translations of Timur Vermes’ novels Er ist wieder da and Die Hungrigen und die Satten. My PhD project reflects my wider research interests of paratext theory, literary translation, the sociology of translation and contemporary literature in translation (particularly German literature).During my PhD, I have taught seminars and given lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students on literary translation and comparative literature. I have also led workshops for postgraduate researchers on internal eximation processes and vivas.In the second year of my PhD, I worked as clerical intern for the BCLA's John Dryden Translation Competition during which I over saw the administration and judging of over 100 English-language literary translations.I have presented findings from my PhD at various conferences in the UK, including the 6th Durham Postgraduate Conference in Translation Studies and the 3rd Leeds Centre for Translation Studies Conference in Translation and Interpreting Studies. I also participated in the 31st CETRA research summer school at KU Leuven's Antwerp campus in 2019.

I worked as a German to English translator within the technical team at SDL Sheffield. My role included:- Translation of technical documentation and web content from a variety of industries including the tech, automotive, construction and farming sectors.- Reviewing translations completed by internal colleagues and external freelancers for accuracy, style and consistency.- Converting English texts between different flavours of English to provide localised content for English speakers worldwide.- Post-editing machine translation to improve style and ensure accuracy.- Liaising with project managers and external resources to ensure that projects are completed on time to an excellent standard.- Handling of purchase orders to ensure smooth cash flow between clients and the company.
