Head Of Engineering

Current

Detroit, Mi, Us

Building the product, team, culture, and technology @ Superbud.

May 2024 - Present

Lead Engineer: E-Commerce

Detroit, Mi, Us

First engineer on the Superbud E-Commerce team. I built a small team and architected a multi-tenant web service to optimize E-Commerce for Cannabis dispensaries with various product offerings.I worked on this project part-time while my partner and I took our first sabbatical from full-time work. We spent five months traveling and investing in areas of our lives that are not directly related to our careers. We will be moving from LA -> Brooklyn in May 2024, and I will start my next full-time gig in May.

Aug 2023 - Sep 2024

Software Engineering Advisor

San Francisco, Us

I supported the founding team of tandem by advising their engineering direction and strategy. I also led their first round of interviews to recruit their founding engineering team.

Jul 2023 - Dec 2023

Tech Lead: Cameo For Business

Chicago, Illinois, Us

I was the first product employee working on Cameo for Business. The sales team successfully began selling Business Cameo videos in 2020, and the company decided to productize these sales in 2021.I was tasked with recruiting and onboarding engineers, designers, and product managers, evangelizing the product-driven growth of the B2B arm, communicating with executives and senior stakeholders in every business unit, and owning the technology for the B2B product. I onboarded or directly managed a team of 13 people and helped the B2B arm grow from $5M to $20M in revenue.During this time, I also led Cameo's migration to GraphQL and worked with our staff and principal engineers on a company-wide backend architecture migration. In the end, the company's growth faltered, and during a third consecutive layoff, the entire B2B arm was let go as the company focused solely on the maintenance of the core product.

Jun 2021 - Jul 2023

Interim Product Tech Lead: Cameo Calls

Chicago, Illinois, Us

I was a founding engineer on the Cameo Calls product team. Cameo Calls was a rapid product experiment that allowed talent to directly connect with their fan base, similar to an in-person meet-and-greet. Talent would start an event and have individual video conversations with a queue of fans. My responsibilities on the Cameo Calls team included participating in product discovery sprints, feasibility prototyping, live-data prototyping, product architecture (back and front-end), and interim engineering management.I learned an immense amount about product discovery and execution. I also had the opportunity to architect a significant portion of the product. Cameo Calls was the first use case Cameo had for an event-driven backend and real-time data on the front and backend.

Aug 2020 - Jun 2021

Senior Full-Stack Engineer

Chicago, Illinois, Us

I worked as a Senior Full-Stack engineer on the Direct Messaging and platform teams. Some projects of note include- Direct Message Data Modeling and Architecture- Message Broker Load Testing and performance analyses- Migrating Cameo from Javascript to Typescript- Frontend typescript utilities- React client state management tooling.

Mar 2020 - Aug 2020

Full-Stack Product Engineer

Chicago, Illinois, Us

I knew I had to join Cameo after I witnessed a friend roll on the floor crying with joy after receiving a Cameo for her birthday.I joined the Los Angeles product engineering team after Cameo finished their series A funding. I focused on product development of the Talent app, along with several DX projects.

Jun 2019 - Mar 2020

Founder

I founded GoGyft with three motivations: to build a product that is significantly more delightful than physical cards, accelerate my technical development, and invest in my financial future. GoGyft taught me the skills to transition into tech and was one of the most rewarding projects of my career. I learned every piece of full-stack development required to productionalize a project, from basic DevOps and CI/CD to styling and design systems, payment processing, and web testing frameworks. After years of free-time development, I achieved the three intentions I had for the project. 2700 messages were sent, and multiple users gave anecdotal feedback that GoGyft was the most meaningful gift they ever received. I learned how to build, deploy, and monitor a production web system, all of which were skills that enabled my career switch from Aerospace Software to Web Development.

May 2018 - Aug 2019

Operations Analyst Full Stack Java Engineer

Bethesda, Md, Us

I was hired to support the Operations Analyst team in developing modern analysis tools. I supported the team's transition to modern development tooling (VCS to Git, Spring to JavaFX), designed developer tools to improve the performance and usability of the tools we built, and implemented analysis features across various physical laws (which I cannot describe in full due to the security level of the projects).Because SkunkWorks is a government contractor, there was no ability to use open-source software. Almost all our solutions we built were from scratch. Database on disc, in-memory application state, front-end UI and state frameworks, and advanced 2/3D visual displays were all homegrown within our small team.

Oct 2017 - Jun 2019

Avionics And Software Launch Intern

Hawthorne, California, Us

I was stationed at Vandenburg Air Force base as an Avionics Launch Inter. The internship acceptance rate during the summer of 2016 was less than 1%. I split my time between hardware and software implementations. My most notable projects were a corrosion analysis on exterior electronic junctions, which led to a re-design of critical junction boxes, and a launch management status dashboard that aggregated data from every step of the Falcon 9 Development process. This dashboard helped leadership decide how to staff and prioritize work to complete the construction of the Falcon 9 that would fly the Iridium 4 mission.

Jun 2016 - Sep 2016

Founder And Lead Project Engineer: X1 Robotics

New York, Ny, Us

I was the founder and Lead Engineer of X1 Robotics at UCLA. I founded X1 to challenge myself and other students to design and create robotics outside their comfort zone. To join X1, every member was required to present an idea and design overview for a robotics project they wanted to complete. Every member who submitted a design would get to vote on their favorite project ideas, and the winning idea would be built that year.X1 is still a prominent study org at UCLA today.
