The second half of my Stetson's Homeless Advocacy Externship placed me at St. Petersburg's We Help Services. The goal of the non-profit organization is to provide essential services to the indigent population in Pinellas county. As an intern, I aided individuals and families face legal and social challenges that created obstacles that inhibited people from living a normal life. I regularly helped people apply for their birth certificates from the state they were born in, which allowed them to receive a Florida identification card, so that they could present that ID card to potential employers that they hope to work for. I also contacted potential local partners for grants that We Help were applying for, which was essential to continue the funding to help We Help's client's overcome their life challenges and help them get back on their feet.

My first placement for Stetson's Homeless Advocacy Internship was at the Public Defender's Homeless Division for the 6th Judicial Circuit. During my time at the PD office I completed Florida's Baker Act training course and became SOAR certified. After completing those course, I was able to assist with Voluntary and Involuntary Baker Act Hearings in Pasco County. Along with Baker Acting, I also assisted in the intake process for the Pasco Mobile Medical Unit that provided free healthcare services to the indigent population all over the county. Lastly, I also researched potential Federal, State, and private grants to help continue the funding for the Mobile Medical Unit.
