About Przemyslaw Karczmarczyk
I am an engineer and a scientist working in high energy physics field since 2014 as a member of the ALICE Collaboration at CERN. I took part in the characterisation of a new pixel sensor for the Muon Forward Tracker team and contributed to the software development of an experiment-theory interface for physicists, as well as I worked on angular and femtoscopic correlation analysis of pairs of particles using the data collected at the Large Hadron Collider. I am currently developing new applications for scientists as a Data Engineer at the synchrotron light source facility located in Barcelona.

Data Engineer
As a part of the data engineering team, my work focuses on the analysis of the data coming from different sources in order to design and implement the ETL pipelines for the customer. I also have an opportunity to lead a developer's team while designing tools using Azure Cloud technologies.

As a part of the ALICE Collaboration I was working on the analysis of the collision data, focusing on the angular correlations of identified pairs of particles. I was studying the yield of associated particles per trigger particle as a function of multiplicity of the event and transverse momentum of particles in a pair, while estimating statistical and systematic errors of the extracted functions. I was also developing my own Monte Carlo model producing the yield of pairs of particles.

During this 3 year contract I worked as a part of the ALICE experiment team on the development of the Rivet toolkit and the MCPLOTS framework. The aim of this work was to create an experiment-theory interface for the heavy-ion community. Intern
I worked with the data from the ALICE experiment performing a two-particle correlation study of non-identical pairs of pions and kaons, where the results of this analysis contributed to the paper publication. I also had an opportunity to participate in the data taking while doing DQM (Data Quality Monitoring) shifts in the control room of the experiment, as well as attend the particle physics course for students.
Trainee
During this internship I had an opportunity to join the MFT (Muon Forward Tracker) team at the SUBATECH institute and work on the development of the brand new particle detector. I contributed to the on-lab characterization of the Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor (ALPIDE chip), working directly with these chips, producing data, analyzing it, and presenting my results in front of the group. I also prepared a small software for analysis automation for these sensors.
