Peter as the Head of Finance Transformation, reporting to the CFO formulates and executes the digital transformation strategy for the various finance functions in the bank. At the core of this digital transformation is the Finance Data Mart in which Peter is responsible to design, implement and operate which underpins a key pillar of the finance digital transformation enabling the financial functions to be truly data driven. Some key functionalities that the Finance Data Mart enables includes the automation of cleansing and loading daily account level balances allowing the ability to derive numerous financial calculations, online dashboards enabling self-service analytics and generation of regulatory returns directly to the regulator. Peter works closely with the CFO and his other direct reports in the gathering of business requirements and functionality including the improved financial operational processes; leveraging new technologies utilising the Finance Data Mart such as Machine Learning and AI for predictive and stress testing, workflow automation which all contribute to the enablement of a truly digital finance.

Peter as an Account Technology Strategist for strategic growth customers in Hong Kong focus' on building a strong relationship with technical and business decision makers to become a trusted technology advisor for digital transformation and cloud services. To achieve this, Peter will orchestrate activities across Microsoft and Partner virtual teams to maximize business results, customer success, and customer satisfaction.

Peter as an Industry Digital Strategist enables marquee and strategic customers to achieve more with their investments in Microsoft technologies and partners with a focus on their horizon 2 (extending their business) and horizon 3 (new business capabilities) initiatives.

Peter as a Digital Advisor works with his customers to perform Digital Transformations. Digital Transformations occur at all levels and aspects in all organisations, such as application modernisation leveraging the Azure Public Cloud, advanced analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence to DevOps and adopting new technologies. Peter works with other Microsoft Digital Advisors and the Microsoft partner ecosystem to deliver Digital Transformations that deliver a step change to his customers.

Peter as the IT Application Manager for Revenue, Internet Booking Engine, Product, Marketing, Airline Planning and CRM business units, worked closely with both the senior business stakeholders and other IT managers to build and execute business cases and also maintaining the systems that keep the airline functioning in his respective areas. Peter as the Solution Architect Lead was the line manager for 11 Solution Architects and also was the lead architect on a number of major programmes that included Single View of Customer, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and data integration in real-time and batch of reservation and inventory data into the CX operational data store.

Peter was in the Enterprise Architecture team that over-sees the entire banks technical application architecture ranging from core systems to desktop applications to infrastructure. Peter specializes in the business intelligence domain where any project in the bank that utilises BI will fall under his purview. Major functions provided by Peter include solution architecture, tool / vendor assessment, proof-of-concepts, standards and guidelines and project consultations.Previously Peter was the Lead BI Architect, leading a team of nine BI architects, which consists of application solution architects, data architects, ETL architects and infrastructure architects (which includes security). The BI Architecture team ensures that the current Business Intelligence needs for the Bank are met, and to develop roadmaps and strategies to meet the future Business Intelligence needs of the Bank. The areas that are covered include the BI Solution Architecture for applications, Data Architecture and Data Warehouse Infrastructure such as the ETL and Security.

A Managing Consultant with over nine years of experience, with the main function to solve business problems for his clients using IT. These clients have mainly been large tier-one banks, solving business problems in the areas of Credit Risk (Basel II), Financial Reporting and Customer Analytics. Have also worked for a number of the large telecommunication providers in both Australia and China.The typical roles that are performed in these projects include project management, solution architecture and technical team lead. In all of these roles, have had to work with the business community to understand the business problems, then formulates strategies and IT solutions, then executes them in both a leadership capacity, reporting to the C-level executives and at a delivery capacity which include hands on work developing prototypes, proof-of-concepts and managing an implementation team.

Secondment from IBM into DBS HK to lead from the beginning the technology facets of the Basel II implementation. Starting from a “clean slate” and working with both the Risk Management Group and Finance Group to identify the requirements and the business problems pose to the bank by the Basel II implementation.

Goal to develop an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to perform customer analytics and bank wide financial reporting. BOCHK’s faced a number of business problems in the area of data consistency (different reports displaying the same piece of information but with different numbers). As the Solution Architect, participated in the project from the initial requirements gathering through to the deployment of the 8TB data warehouse and associated data marts for analytics and reporting. The business areas the EDW served included, Customer Analytics such as “cross-sell ratio” and Financial Reporting. The role ensured that all the components from the various streams “dove-tailed” and functions together.

As the Enterprise Data Modeler, lead a team of 12 comprising of both IBM and SHCT members through a number of detail workshops beginning with developing a conceptual data model through to a detail logical data model. Functional areas f the data models included the logical data model to support the SHCT provisioning process and detail logical data models for SHCT’s products, customers and billing functions. During the process assisted in the development of the data model standards such as the naming standards and code tables.

Led a team of 5 FTE’s, which included resources from the bank and their strategic outsourcer (EDS) to design, implement and deploy the web-based reporting application to access the Financial Data Warehouse. The team was engaged to develop 70+ reports, drawing data from the Essbase MOLAP database using the web-based reporting tool AlphaBlox. The system was deployed out to over 1,500 users throughout the bank and required a complex infrastructure and efficient server-side processing. Working with a pre-built framework provided by the tools vendor and optimising it to function in a clustered environment.

Led a team of 6 FTE’s to develop the functional and detail technical designs for a reporting initiative to provide a HR KPI framework to senior managers (including the CEO) within Telstra to assist in managing the Telstra workforce. Was brought onto the project due to the implementation experiences with the key tool AlphaBlox.

SouthCorp is a leading Australian wine maker which includes major labels such as Penfolds and Rosemount. The Wines BI (Business Intelligence) project was to develop a management reporting tool designed to assist the SouthCorp business to perform “demand planning” for the short and long term supply of raw materials such as grapes. Peter led a small team consisting of both client and IBM resources during the deployment of system into production. Peter also designed enhancements to the ETL processing such as the automatic creation of database partitions and event logging.

Led a team of 6 FTE’s to analysis, design, implement and deploy the ETL components of the solution which included the data models and ETL processes to provide a corporate reporting solution for their wholesale products. Started from the requirements gathering process through to identifying the data sources and the data requirements, designing the ETL interfaces into the normalized ODS data model and subsequent complex financial transformations into the DDS.

Toyota Motor Corporation Australia (TMCA) is a large auto car manufacturer. The MIS project was an initiative to develop a Management Information System covering all parts of the TMCA business, from the front-line dealers to parts to warranty.Peter was part of a small team to implement a data mart using the existing ODS developed by the previous phase of work. The data mart was focused around their parts division, allowing the user to perform analysis such as “parts sold” and “gross profit” for the month, at the granular part number level. In addition Peter also developed a smaller warranty data mart and a report spanning two data marts showing the number of accessories (parts) sold on new car sales.

Telstra is the leading telecommunications provider in Australia. The CDW (Corporate Data Warehouse) program was to replace the existing corporate financial reporting application. Peter was part of the front-end reporting team developing the MOLAP database using Essbase, from designing the outline (dimensions and measures) to the scripts used to perform the batch loads.

Was involved with over six major projects during which included projects with financial institutions in Australia such as St. George Bank and RAMS. These projects were to implement custom solutions to manage their securitization products, including functions to select which mortgage loans to securitize; ‘redesignation’ of the loans between pools and entitlement allocations after the bond has been released.

A small to medium size electronics manufacturing company, specialising in Automatic Testing Equipment. Peter’s main task was to develop a PC based applications to control the Automatic Testing Machines. This involved building easy to use software to interface with the complex hardware. Peter also had smaller project to build a system software interface to a GPIB cable via the serial port and subsequently build a GUI to control the GPIB cable and its connected devices. Peter also developed a “learning program” when given a prototype PCB board, it can learn its characteristics and use it to check if other manufactured PCB boards are within operating parameters.
