Linkedin only offers single and married; I am really neither - I am widowed and have been since March 28, 2010 when I lost my wife, Susan, to cancer.After graduating from law school, I retired to Aspen for a year, took the bar, then set up a law practice in Cripple Creek, CO. I worked for the CO Dept. of Social Services and as an Deputy DA for the 4th Judicial District as well. Some of my fondest memories are of my time in Cripple Creek.When the price of gold started dropping, I moved to Crested Butte as their Town Attorney. The highlight was representing the Town of Crested Butte in a case it lost in District Court - AMAX vs. Town of Crested Butte. The CO Supreme Court accepted the case on an expedited basis (bypassing the Court of Appeals) and we won; it remains good law today because Governor Lamm rejected a bill by a Republican legislature that would have over-turned the case. After I left Crested Butte, I worked on my PhD ("public administration") and spent a session working for the CO State Senate. I also worked for a law firm on the Two Forks project. When that went south, I started working for a law firm representing homeowner associations. Living in Denver was not for me, however, and I changed careers.I re-wrote all land use codes for Washakie County, WY, avoided a disaster as Administrator for Red Lodge, MT. Briefly, I was Community Development Coordinator for the City of Rapid City, SD, and then took the position of Director of Development Services for Archuleta County, CO. The County went broke, my wife got cancer.....After a lengthy grieving period, I am again engaged. I give my time to good civic endeavors and causes. One, Dry Gulch Reservoir, was controversial, ill-timed, and overly ambitious. It was given up for dead after a lengthy court battle. SJWCD has down-sized the project, re-tasked it's purposes to conform to the objectives of the State Water Plan.Rod is a member of ICMA and APA. He is a certified planner (“AICP”).
