About Bryan Plankenhorn
Hello! My name is Bryan Plankenhorn and I am a first generation indigenous graduate student pursuing a PhD degree in Biological Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island. My research focuses around the harmful algal blooming species called Pseudo nitzschia which is a pennate diatom found throughout the world. Pseudo nitzschia produces a neurotoxin called Domoic Acid which can lead to Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning. I am currently examining the transcriptomic (gene expression) for Domoic Acid under various environmental stressor conditions. I am also examining what primary and secondary metabolites are produced from toxin producing cultures to observe any differences in composition. Before coming to the University of Rhode Island, I was a habitat restoration technician in Washington state. I primarily specialized in invasive species removal, steep hillside erosion control, and native plantings throughout rural and urban King County. I obtained my Bachelor's degree from Central Washington University where I graduated with degrees in both Biomedicine and Chemistry.
Listed skills include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Management, Organizational Effectiveness, and 3 others.
