About Pier Luigi Capucci

Pier Luigi Capucci (https://capucci.org) is concerned with the communication studies, the new media and art forms and the relationships among art, science and technology. He has been professor at the universities of Rome “La Sapienza”, Bologna, Florence, Urbino, Udine and SUPSI Lugano, and at the fine arts academies of Carrara, NABA Milan, L’Aquila, Urbino, Quasar Rome and Reggio Calabria. Currently he is the Director of the Scientific-Cultural activities at LABA (Free Academy of Fine Arts) Rimini. Since 2007 he has been working as a supervisor in the T-Node PhD Research Program of the Planetary Collegium (University of Plymouth), and from 2013 to 2018 as the Director of Studies.He has published the books "Realtà del virtuale" (1993; 2015), on virtual technologies and the relationships between culture and representation; "Il corpo tecnologico" (1994), on the impact of technologies on the human body; "Arte e tecnologie" (1996; 2013), about art, science and technology relationships; "art*science. The New and History" (2018), on the relationships between innovation and history; and "Arte e complessità" (Art and complexity, 2018). He edited the book "Dialogues across the seas: the ocean that keeps us apart also joins us" (2022), translated into Italian as "Dialoghi attraverso i mari. Il mare che ci separa, ci unisce" (2023). He has published more than 400 texts in books, magazines and proceedings.In 1994 he founded and directed "NetMagazine"/"MagNet", a research project on the relationships between culture and technologies, the first online magazine in Italy. He has organized exhibitions, curated projects and had lectures in International symposia and conferences. In March 2000 he founded Noema (https://noemalab.eu), on the relationships among technology, science, culture and society, of which he is President and Editor in Chief, selected in 2003 by RAI International as best Italian website.In 2018 he started the research project art*science – Art & Climate Change (https://artscience.online) on the relationship between art and the climate crisis.He has organized exhibitions and worked in European projects. He has been part of the Ars Electronica International Advisory Board in the Net Communities category. Since 2018 he is a consultant of the European Commission on the relationships between scientific disciplines, technologies (in particular Artificial Intelligence and Big Data) and humanities.He is a journalist and a member of the Scientific Committee of AICA (Association Internationale des Critiques d’Art, Paris), Italian section.
