Hiew is currently the Vice Chancellor and CEO of the University of Wollongong Malaysia. His academic experience spans across multiple universities both locally and abroad.Hiew was the MD of BT Global Technology (M) Sdn. Bhd. and headed British Telecommunications PLC (BT)’s global insourcing centre in Malaysia. He was instrumental in advocating Malaysia as part of BT’s geo-diversity strategy, and he was crucial for BT’s insourcing strategy into Malaysia to grow to a centre of ~800 staff. The centre includes IT and product development, project management, IT/product support and help-desk, contract management and support, among others. Hiew was also the CEO of BT Multimedia (M) Sdn. Bhd. and headed BT's research centre in Malaysia. He was responsible for managing the research and commercial exploration of technologies and innovations for BT in the areas of mobility and convergence as well as broadband communications and applications.Hiew has consultancy experience for development projects on enterprise and sales systems, as well as system integration projects. Hiew has been involved with a number of government and semi-government organisations in Malaysia in the role of external consultants. In research, Hiew is a co-inventor of a number of patents filed in the UK, Europe and Malaysia. He has published his research widely in various technical journals and conference proceedings and has given technical talks in a number of key international conferences, industry summits and forums. He is regularly invited to speak on the topic of creativity and Innovation, R&D management and commercialisation. Hiew was the CEO of a management development centre focusing on graduate/adult education and training. He is a certified HRDF trainer and a registered mentor with Cradle Malaysia.
