About Paul Hill

I've been a People Leader, Product Owner, Architect, and Software Engineer in my time. I love helping people and making their lives better. To that end, I now help to run a new software start-up business as a Co-Founder.I've been working in Software Engineering for almost 20 years. I'm passionate about delivering technology that improves the lives of customers through building, developing, and supporting the teams that do this.I believe that understanding customer needs is the key to getting fantastic results. Without knowing what your customer's problems and goals are, how can you possibly provide a good service? With that in mind I spend time forging these relationships and taking the time to break down complex technical subjects so they can be understood.Working at Games Workshop allowed my work to bring some extra happiness and joy to many people around the world, while my time with Capital One focussed on making other Engineers lives easier with tools. Now, with Kuihi I am aiming to combine the two, creating great software that makes people enjoy their lives more and build a culture and environment that's wonderful to work in. That's exciting!

I managed a small team of exceptional Software Engineers. They would build well managed and excellently engineered tools and services for the other teams and I helped them do that. My focus was on helping them grow personally and in their careers as well as prioritising the workload and giving space for them to be innovative and continually learning.

Games Workshop Ltd Apr 2018 - Jan 2019
    Nottingham, United Kingdom
As an Enterprise Architect I reported to the Global Head of IT, providing support to senior managers and delivery teams. I did this by understanding what Games Workshop wanted to achieve, what it saw as important, as well as what it didn't. This understanding lead to planning and roadmaps that guided delivery and project teams in their approach as well as principles that they should be following when it came to customer facing technology.

Sometimes that meant working with them to design systems architecture or page designs. Sometimes it was helping them work out the right course of action to take or removing other barriers to them succeeding. Sometimes it was simply making them their preferred cup of tea!Outside of managing the team I spent a lot of time working with people from around Games Workshop. I understood their problems and suggested how we can solve them with technology and software. I also worked alongside many external suppliers, consultants and experts to help us provide additional expertise outside the small in-house team.Building and maintaining all these relationships was a key part of my role and an important way for me to know what my team should be delivering to provide the best value possible to Games Workshop.
