Took responsibility for overall company IT infrastructure while headcount grew from 40 people to 150 people, head office was relocated, branch office was opened, all operating and back-office systems were upgraded through two generations of Microsoft version releases. The systems managed are listed in “Systems Administration” under “Skills and Expertise”.In the beginning, Internal IT was failing on every KPI. At the end of January 2013, I handed over a functional, pro-active department to my successor with no disruption in service.Simultaneously set up a cloud based infrastructure for hosting Dynamics CRM, supported CRM Consultants in their work for clients and contributed to the development of a CfMD ISV product.

Appointed primarily to lead the bid from a technical perspective to sell a replacement for the Telecommunications Network Inventory and Planning System developed at Advanced Knowledge Systems (Pty) Ltd (see below) to Telkom SA. The bid came from a multi-national consortium of 13 partners (including IPP members) and was short-listed. We lost the deal when we refused to counter a bribe put up by a competitor. Not being a sales person, I resigned when it was clear the bid was lost.

Turned around a bankrupt software development company, created a new software development team which peaked at 65 people, implemented Object Oriented Software Engineering disciplines, took on the development of a Telecommunications Network Inventory and Planning System for Telkom SA, delivered a 102 man year iteration of the project 4 hours late and with 3 bugs (fixed, regression tested and delivered within two weeks) and almost succeeded in selling the company in North America at the height of the Dot Com bubble.Regrettably, Telkom fell under the control of American management who preferred to use their own suppliers. In addition, local BEE and Affirmative Action criteria made it difficult for a small company to re-qualify as an independent supplier to Telkom SA. We lost our only client and could not cover the distance to secure one or more replacements.

Established, built and sold a business offering bookkeeping and administrative services to small businesses and individuals. Handled over 400 discrete clients before selling.

Trained as a Waste Clerk, Teller and Foreign Exchange Clerk.

Trained to take ground based radar control of jet fighter and bomber aircraft in offensive and defensive combat roles. Primary function was to control jet fighters in interceptions and dog-fights where opposing aircraft were typically travelling at supersonic speeds and could not see one another visually.
