Chief executive officer for Michigan’s largest and oldest adolescent-specific healthcare organization (primary care clinic, behavioral health, maternal and infant health programs, youth engagement, and social services). I practice servant leadership alongside the amazing Corner Health team who lead clinical operations, fundraising, community outreach and education, behavioral health, and maternal and infant health programs. My specific focuses include administration, financial sustainability, strategy, and partnerships.

As a Deacon, my ministry vocation is to help the church be a conduit of God's healing love for communities and populations around the world, especially those who are vulnerable and marginalized as I help the broader United Methodist Church understand and address global health issues at their local levels.

I support HFHS programs that address the social influences on our patients’ and community’s health. In this brand new leadership role, I am reporting up through HFHS Population Health and working in close collaboration with HFHS Community Health Equity & Wellness to better understand and then create sustainable solutions to improve health by closing gaps in food, transportation, and housing insecurity.

In this leadership role with the HFHS Global Health Initiative, I leveraged my experience in global health and program development to transform healthcare alongside marginalized and vulnerable populations in Detroit, Michigan. In my role, I led Henry Ford’s “global to local” portfolio of programs. My projects used the paradigm of global innovation flow (sometimes called ‘reverse’ innovation) to improve US models of healthcare delivery, workforce, information, and financing for underserved populations, by adapting and applying evidence-based models from low-resource settings around the world. In my nearly 4.5 years with GHI, I secured over $5m in external grant funding to test five of these novel models, while establishing myself, GHI, and HFHS as internationally recognized practitioners in this nascent field of global innovation flow in healthcare. Promoted from initial Senior Program Coordinator role to this leadership role.

As a Paul D. Coverdell Fellow, I was responsible for leading recruitment and messaging efforts for RSPH's Clarkston-Rollins Connection, a community-engaged learning program for graduate students of public health. I interpreted ClaRC's mission for my peers and the broader Emory community, led membership recruitment (~40 per year), co-taught a weekly seminar, and facilitated volunteer experiences in Clarkston, GA with the Fugees Family Academy, a middle/high school for refugees.

As a member of the Gender & Empowerment Team, I worked with CARE's Tipping Point Initiative in Bangladesh and Nepal, which was a project to influence and address child marriage's decision-makers, change-agents, and root causes. I co-analyzed community-produced qualitative data from Nepalese and Bengali focus groups and key-informant interviews with focuses on filling research gaps in the broader child-marriage literature and on national and global strategies for advocacy. Independently, I monitored outcomes, and in the GE Team, I contributed to monitoring and evaluation activities and adaptation of community-specific situational analyses.

In this praxis-based research internship, I explored young men's health outcomes vis-a-vis their learned masculinities in a rural village in central Kenya. Called Nyumbani, the village was created in 2006 for 1,000 children and vulnerable adults living with or affected by AIDS. I conducted a qualitative study by performing 29 in-depth interviews with young men to understand their health behavior in this setting. This project was conducted while I was Joseph Blount Scholar of Health & Human Rights completing my summer applied public health practice.

Conducted literature reviews, explored best practices, and developed toolkits in the areas of the social determinants of HIV, working with key populations (MSM, IDU, CSW), and pastoral leadership development in support of the Interfaith Health Program's partnership with PEPFAR.

Led Baldwin's 32 programs and 14 program staff that feed, clothe, educate, and empower the neediest in the Pontiac community. Trained staff in the development and collection of metrics for measuring program evaluation and community impact.

Wrote applications for and subsequently managed grants worth over $30,000 for education- and technology-related projects, identified as needed by the municipal government. These projects were for the installation of a 20 unit computer lab with internet connectivity and for the initiation of an annual summer camp targeting boys' personal growth and development (HIV/AIDS, mental health, substance abuse avoidance, and nutrition/exercise). Camp Boys to Men is now in its 5th year serving young men in the Mortlocks outer-island region.

Taught 4 English reading and writing classes to over 100 11th and 12th graders over 3 years as part of my service in the Peace Corps. Working with an in-class counterpart, we co-wrote lesson plans and presented those lessons together as a way to broaden her methods and techniques in teaching ESL and strengthen my awareness of cultural norms and the local language. I am extremely proud of the accomplishments of 29 of my 36 senior students who gained admission to the College of Micronesia (www.comfsm.fm) and the Caroline College and Pastoral Institute, operating in conjunction with Chaminade University of Honolulu (www.chaminade.edu).
