P. M. Lane is the author of Tin Town, Bermuda Shorts, World Cup Tales and other works. He was born in Ireland and has lived in London, Bermuda, the UAE, Malaysia and Outback Australia. He now lives in Australia, from where he travels extensively around the Asia Pacific region. His first short story Christobel was published by the Bermuda Royal Gazette newspaper and he has written both fiction and non-fiction books along with a number of short stories. He is currently completing KL Cop - The Golden Triangle, the first in a series of novels loosely based on his experiences in Malaysia, while TIn Town is in the process of being translated into Japanese. In addition to his books, Philip has written many technical papers, a number of political speeches, original screenplays and more than a dozen poems on subjects ranging from climate change to the wildlife of the outbackTin Town is a personal account of a move from sprawling London, to live and work in the remote mining town of Broken Hill, during the worst drought in Australia's history. The book describes life in the remote outback town amid the salt-of-the-earth people and stoic characters of far west New South Wales, who refuse to allow the fabled gateway to Australia's outback become yet another ghost town. The book relates encounters with insane artists, sporting flashers, raging dust storms, colourful local characters and suicidal kangaroos, against the harsh background of the Australian outback at its most extreme and brutal. Gone are grey skies, smart business suits and BMWs, to be replaced by relentless heat, Hard Yakka clothing, Akubra Hats and rusting Utes.Broken Hill with its rich history of mining, civil rights and bitter strikes, is the birthplace of the Australian Trade Union movement and BHP Billiton, the mighty mining conglomerate, but to us over a four year period, it was simply 'Home'.

Bermuda Shorts AuthorFreelance Editor/Writer Jan 2016 - PresentForget a year in Provence, try living on a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean for four years.Bermuda with its four hundred year history of pirates, smugglers, rum runners and shipwrecks is England's oldest colonial outpost. A subtropical haven where the twenty-first century comes face to face with old ways and customs to form a unique blend of history, tradition and development which is the very essence of Bermuda. Bermuda Shorts is a personal account of living and working on the beautiful island of Bermuda. The book relates encounters with modern-day pirates, sea monsters, raging Atlantic storms, colourful local characters and suicidal tourists, against a remote background of incredible beauty in the western Atlantic. Gone are grey skies, cold nights and miserable people to be replaced by blue skies, exquisite colonial architecture, vibrant characters and tall swaying palm trees. -
World Cup Tales. Jan 2009 - Jun 2018Author of World Cup TalesWorld Cup Tales is composed of 32 personal accounts, gained from a series of interviews, one for each country that has qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals. Each account illustrates the significance of the tournament for the individual and their fellow countrymen beyond the actual events which take place in the stadium. The FIFA World Cup is the most popular and widely viewed televised sporting event, with estimated audiences counted in billions. For a month every four years the tournament captivates both keen football fans and neutral observers on all continents with most people on the planet having viewed the spectacle. The objective of my book is to provide the reader with an insight into the social relevance and importance the World Cup holds for each country, via the personal accounts of supporters. With the upcoming finals in Brazil next year generating enormous interest in the tournament, World Cup Tales will appeal not just to people from the thirty two qualifying nations but also a much wider general audience, together with readers interested in sport and its global influence.
