Started as an applied R&D engineer at national laboratories developing methods for reactor safety analysis, risk assessment, reliability, and human error assessment. Built and operated a highly successful consulting and technical services firm providing human performance engineering services to the nuclear, chemical process, oil & gas pipeline, and other "high hazard" industries. Subsequently involved in the startup team and/or owner of four other small businesses. As an HPE consultant have worked with Fortune 500 companies and Federal Government organizations to establish and enhance safety and operational excellence programs. Highly effective leader, team builder, and manager; strategic thinker, particularly skilled at solving systems problems that require multi-disciplinary approaches. Have at different times been an active member of a number of professional organizations; chaired international conferences; served on a National Research Council panel; authored over 100 publications in safety, human factors, reliability, and management, including journal articles, invited presentations, technical reports, and a book chapter.
