Learn more about CIC and the projects listed below at http://www.cic.edu.Ongoing projects include Legacies of American Slavery: Reckoning with the Past (a national network of colleges and community partners designed to promote better understanding of the multiple legacies of slavery); Humanities Research for the Public Good (a grant program to support undergraduate research projects and public programming to address issues of public interest); and New Currents in Teaching Philosophy (a faculty development program).Past projects include the CIC Consortium for Online Humanities Instruction (a pilot program to develop and share upper-division online courses in the humanities); an institute for college faculty and administrators on Diversity, Civility, and the Liberal Arts; the Project on the Future of Independent Higher Education (which included two years of research activities followed by eight regional workshops for college leaders in 2016-17); Talking about Private Colleges (a national series of workshops to introduce institutional teams to data and messaging strategies about the value of private colleges); an initiative to explore barriers and opportunities in community college student transfers to private four-year institutions; and a national symposium on best practices to promote the success of first-generation college students. Coordinated institutional research for the largest association of museums and museum workers in the United States and scanned trends for the Center for the Future of Museums. Areas of research focus included the economic performance of museums, their social value and community impact, the future of museums, and the shape of the museum workforce.

Designed, promoted, and administered a national graduate fellowship program intended to improve the admissions pipeline from small liberal arts colleges to the top-ranked doctoral programs in the humanities.

Taught upper-division history courses (American Civil War and Reconstruction). Created online instructional content, alone and in collaboration with other faculty members. Completed UMUC’s rigorous training program for online faculty in July 2005. Ranked in the top 10% of all instructors by UMUC students during the Fall 2006 semester.
