However with the current oral drug delivery methods, only a small fraction of the administered biopharmaceutical peptides(BP) e.g. insulin reach the blood stream, due to low absorption in the small intestines. The objective of this project is to shed light on the translocation mechanism of BPs across epithelial cells. Here I will utilize a state of the art custom build lattice light sheet microscope with adaptive optics for fluorescent microscopy for biophysical in vitro assays. The assays range from simple lipid systems to complex cellular models, will lay the foundation for unveiling the translocation mechanistic of BPs and what specific modifications may alter.Perspective: By understanding the mechanism by which BP translocation across the epithelial cell barrier grants the opportunity of developing orally administered peptide drugs. Chronically sick patients such as diabetics require injections day causing discomfort and in worst cases infections. Developing an orally available alternative will increase the patient compliance, reduce cost for health personal and possibility increase shell life.Supervisors: Sr. researcher Jannik Bruun Larsen, Ass. CraftedBy brew and produce customized beer for any occasion. The company is funded by the Carlsberg Group which enables a large network of knowledge and know-how.I contribute part time by producing the customized beer. I have know-how in every step from brew to the finalized bottling.
