Lead Technical Design AssuranceHome Office - Infrastructure & Security Jan 2006 - Mar 2008Lead role as technical design Assurance for live service projects where I was responsible for capturing initial business requirements, supplier engagement and final delivery of the solution through a ‘surgery’ process. I was the Senior User represented at supplier Design Approvals Boards and Design Steering Groups and worked collaboratively across organisational boundaries to achieve commercial, technical and business results through movement into new tactical and strategic markets. This representation built some very strong and well respected working relationships between previously fraught commercial boundaries. My strong desire for innovation led me to continually strive to improve the POISE desktop and remote access service through the application of secure and innovative technology. This included advice to the CTO (customer and supplier side) on all aspects of ongoing technology refresh, from server, desktop, infrastructure and application. These successes were influential in a significant improvement in service management and delivery which was echoed by a significant increase in the customer satisfaction survey of the corporate ICT systems provided by Home Office IT. As such, I remain very well respected and my advice held in high regard by both senior suppliers and Home Office Group colleagues.

Senior ArchitectHome Office - Information Management & Technology Unit Aug 2003 - Dec 2005My largest success during this engagement was the position of Senior Architect responsible for the design and delivery of the Technology Refresh for the POISE infrastructure (~20,000 users). I was responsible for technically assuring the supplier designs during the refresh, but more commonly I was actually providing direct advice and input into the solution to maximise the benefits and capabilities delivered. This was a substantial upgrade of desktop PCs, moving to an Active Directory based solution within an accredited secure infrastructure. The refresh also included the introduction of a Remote Access Service to over 2,000 users. This service was consistently evolving and considerable success was achieved in convincing the security authorities that introduction of 3G and Wi-Fi capabilities would ensure the security of the solution was not compromised.I was responsible for managing the various work packages to ensure a smooth and efficient upgrade of the core desktop and was the Technical Design and Assurance lead for the refresh of 20,000 desktops from NT4.0-SE to Windows XP. My design role ensured that the very strict government security and compliance requirements were adhered to throughout, resulting in a clean bill of health following comprehensive penetration testing and security authority accreditation. My experience and expertise also enabled me to advise both the Home Office and suppliers on the subsequent refresh of the Servers and Infrastructure. My telephony engineering experience allowed me to make informed recommendations on the telephony system and features deployed for the new headquarters. During all of these activities I was able to offer regular skills transfer to other members of my team ensuring maximum value was gained from my time with the customer.

Various: Special Projects; Engineer; User Training; Problem ManagementData Track Technology Plc Aug 1994 - Mar 2001This was the start of my career that exposed me to many different industries from legal, construction, supply chain, telecoms through to local and central government. I was initially an installation and training engineer for telephone call logging and management systems. I would travel to client sites and discuss the exact client requirements and ensure that the systems were configured to their exact specifications. This enabled me to gain a very strong experience in dealing with people from all walks of life and industry sectors and is something I take great pride in continuing to build upon today.I gained experience in running a small team of field based engineers responsible for their annual appraisals and continued development. This allowed me to make good use of my motivational and people skills. The Sales Director relied on my pre and post sales expertise and advice and I designed solutions based on exact customer requirements – often far exceeding their expectations. It was within this role that I was able to gain solid experience in Windows Terminal Services and other server products.
